Kratom and Its Benefits
Kratom is the product of the kratom tree, a tropical tree in the coffee family. The kratom tree grows in Southeast Asia, in places like Malaysia, Indonesia or Thailand. Kratom’s scientific name is Mitragyna speciosa. That name comes from kratom’s main alkaloid: mitragynine. Together with other 25 alkaloids (like 7-OHM) and other active elements, mitragynine is responsible for the effects of kratom.
Kratom’s alkaloids and active elements impact the opioid receptors in our brain (like the mu and delta receptors). It works almost in the same way opiates do. But make no mistake: kratom is not an opioid. Therefore, kratom doesn’t have the dangerous side effects and risk of dependence of opioids. However, thanks to its effects on these receptors, kratom can bring about many beneficial effects:

Kratom extracts are concentrated forms of kratom. The preparation process for all extracts starts by boiling kratom dried leaves to extract their alkaloids. When consuming kratom extracts, you’ll need a smaller product amount. This is very important. Take low to moderate doses and avoid consuming it every day. Also, if you’re new to kratom you shouldn’t take kratom extracts. Instead, start by using regular kratom. Only kratom experts should consume kratom extracts.

How to Make Kratom Extract Powder: Ingredients
- 200 g of kratom powder. It’s better to use fresh kratom powder that doesn’t contain any stems or veins. Nonetheless, you can also use crushed kratom leaves.
- You’ll need twice the amount of water than of kratom.
- Lemon juice

- A scale
- A kitchen pot
- A jug with a spout
- A muslin cloth or any other fabric that allows you to strain the product. You can use an old cotton t-shirt, for instance.
How to Make Kratom Extract Powder: Elaboration
Measure and Mix
Measure the kratom on the scale and make sure the weight is 200 grams.
Mix the kratom and the water in the pot. The water needs to cover the kratom completely. Make sure the kratom blends completely with the water. Otherwise, those kratom leaves or parts that stay floating around in big chunks could burn.
First Boil
Add the lemon juice. Citric juices help extract the alkaloids. If you intend to double-boil the mixture, you’ll need to add lemon juice to each boil. You won’t notice the citric flavor in the final extract. The only purpose of the juice is to help preserve the therapeutic properties of kratom alkaloids.
Put the pot on the stove and turn the heat up until the water starts boiling. Then, turn the temperature down a bit. You’ll need to watch the pot carefully. Make sure the water doesn’t go up too often, as it could burn the kratom when dropping back. Let it boil for 20 – 30 minutes and then remove the pot from the stove.
Strain
Then pour the mixture into the jug. Strain it using a muslin or a cotton cloth. Be careful! The water will still be very hot, and you could burn yourself. You can use rubber gloves to protect your hands from the heat. Put the cloth in a glass for collecting the tea and squeeze the cloth to let out all the liquid. By straining, most of the powder will remain in the cloth.
Second Boil
Put the kratom powder that you just strained back in the pot. Pour more lemon juice and add more water to cover the kratom again. Then, boil it all over again.
Boil the kratom tea you had in the glass in another pot. Let it boil for 20 – 30 minutes. Then strain the liquid with the muslin or cotton cloth.
Mix the liquids from both pots and boil them again. By this stage, you must have only liquid and no product of the kratom plant.
Be very careful with the boiling! The liquid cannot evaporate completely. Or else, the actual extract could burn. There will come a moment when most of the water has evaporated and the kratom tea has turned into a thick, syrup-like liquid.
Now it’s time to reduce the heat. Otherwise, you could burn the extract. Move the liquid to a pan away from the heat and let the extract cool down. But before that, you can put the pan in the oven with moderate heat for a few minutes. By doing this, you’ll remove the extra moisture. Then you can let it cool down and become solid.
Kratom Resin
You’ll notice that during the solidification process the extract turns into a “flexible” chunk. This is the kratom resin. You can fold this resin and cut it into small pieces. To prepare a kratom tea, you’ll only need to add one of these pieces into a cup of boiling water.
Grind
Once the resin is fully solid, place it into a coffee grinder and grind it into a powder. And there it’s your kratom extract powder!
Establishing the Potency
With 200 grams of kratom, you’ll get around 35 grams of 6x kratom extract powder. However, remember you need to measure the extract to know the exact potency. The potency refers to the amount of regular kratom used to make one single gram of kratom extract. For instance, if you use 200 grams and obtain 35 grams, that means the potency is around 5.7X. Therefore, you’ll need to divide the first amount of kratom between the weight of the final extract.
