Kratom has become a lifesaver for millions of people around the world. For many, kratom is the best way to treat conditions and ailments like anxiety, depression, fatigue or chronic pain. Many individuals also use kratom to cope with the symptoms of opiate withdrawal. Kratom has many different effects, and often these effects depend on the kratom type and strain. In this post, we will explore the properties of the most potent kratom types: red vein kratom.
Kratom Properties and Effects
Kratom (or Mitragyna speciosa) is an evergreen tree in the Rubiaceae family that grows in Southeast Asia. But kratom is also the name given to the crushed leaves of the kratom tree. The leaves of the kratom tree contain very potent alkaloids (like mitragynine or 7-hydroxymitragynine) that act on the mu, delta and kappa receptors in your brain, producing relaxing, euphoric, stimulating or analgesic effects:
Thanks to these effects, kratom is very effective in treating conditions or issues like:
- Pain
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Stress
- Insomnia
- Lack of energy
- Opiate withdrawal symptoms
Different Kratom Types
Depending on the color of the leaf vein and stem, there are three main kratom types: white vein kratom, green vein kratom, and red vein kratom. Also, there are multiple kratom strains or sub-varieties, usually related to the place of origin. For instance, you can find Green Malay kratom (which is green kratom from Malaysia), White Borneo (white vein kratom from Borneo) or Red Vein Sumatra (red kratom from Sumatra, in Indonesia).
In general, we can state that:
- White kratom effects are more energizing and euphoric
- Red kratom is more sedative and analgesic
- Green kratom effects are analgesic, but also stimulating and euphoric
However, there are other factors that affect the effects that kratom brings, such as the dosage, the preparation method or the strain. So, for example, if you want to take kratom to boost your energy, you should use white vein kratom at low doses. In the case of red kratom, nonetheless, you may want to reduce the dosage, due to the potency of this kratom type.
Red Vein Kratom Properties
Because red vein kratom has higher levels of 7-hydroxymitragynine than other kratom types, its analgesic and calming (sedative in some cases) effects are noticeably more potent. Red vein kratom is incredibly effective in combating pain, which is why many people suffering from very painful conditions (like fibromyalgia, arthritis or certain injuries) favor this kratom variety. While all kratom types have analgesic properties, neither white or green kratom can beat the pain-relieving effects of red kratom. Needless to say, thanks to its sedative properties, red kratom is also a great ally to fight insomnia.
The effects of red vein kratom kick in slower than other kratom types, but last longer.
Red Vein Kratom Dosage
Your kratom dosage will depend on many factors, such as:
- The desired effect
- The kratom type and strain
- Your tolerance level
In general, the dosage guide for regular kratom (that is, not extract or enhanced products) is:
- Low doses: 2 – 4 grams
- Moderate doses: 4 – 5 grams
- High doses: 6 – 8 grams
However, this is a general dosage guide. In case of red vein kratom, the recommendable dosage may vary depending on the strain. Furthermore, red vein kratom is the most potent kratom type, so you may need to adjust (lower) your kratom dosage to achieve the sought effects. On the other hand, if you are using enhanced kratom or kratom extracts, you should use lower doses. We recommend you check our kratom dosage chart for regular kratom, enhanced kratom and kratom extracts.
Bear in mind that at low doses red kratom will still give you an energy boost, but with a calming effect at the same time. Furthermore, it will also enhance your mental clarity and your mood. But at high doses, red vein kratom can turn out way too sedative and produce drowsiness. Therefore, be cautious with the dosage and start with low or moderate kratom amounts until you find the right dose for you.
Different Varieties of Red Vein Kratom
Probably, red vein kratom is the most abundant type of kratom. Hence, there are many red kratom strains available. In this post, we will explore a few of them.
Red Bali Kratom
Red Bali kratom is one of the most popular kratom strains. The leaves of red Bali kratom are larger than those of other Mitragyna speciosa trees. While somewhat milder than other red strains, red vein Bali kratom is an effective pain reliever and will help you cope with insomnia or anxiety. At lower doses, red Bali kratom will boost your energy levels and enhance your mental clarity.
Red Sumatra Kratom
This kratom strain is very popular in the Indonesian island of Sumatra thanks to its positive effects and properties. Red vein Sumatra is a great ally if you are suffering from anxiety or high levels of stress. Users favor red Sumatra kratom for its effectiveness in relaxing muscles. Red Sumatra is one of the best kratom strains for relaxation or insomnia. And, like other red kratom strains, it also has potent analgesic properties.
Red Malay Kratom
This kratom strain native to Malaysia is known for its long-lasting effects. At low doses, red Malay kratom brings about mild stimulating effects, while at higher doses its effects will turn out more sedative and pain relieving. Red Malay kratom also has euphoric effects at low or moderate doses.
Bentuangie Kratom
Bentuangie is a relatively new kratom strain that grows in the Indonesian jungle. If you are looking for relaxation and calm without sedation, this kratom strain could be your choice. Bentuangie kratom strain promotes relaxation and good sleep, but without the drowsiness or sedation brought by other kratom strains. Moreover, Bentuangie kratom is very good at enhancing your mood and has strong painkilling properties. And its effects are very long-lasting.
Red Vein Kratom Side Effects
Like other kratom types, the side effects of red vein kratom include:
- Nausea
- Drowsiness
- Stomach upset
- Constipation
But in the case of red kratom, the risk of drowsiness (and sleepiness) is higher than when using other kratom types. In most cases, kratom side effects are due to high doses or too frequent kratom intakes. If you are suffering from kratom side effects, it may be advisable you stop consuming kratom temporarily or reduce your dosage.
