Kratom is becoming very popular in recent times in the US. Despite the FDA’s attempts to criminalize the plant, kratom’s advocates and, especially, the American Kratom Association, have been able to pass bills in a number of states, including Georgia and Utah to regulate kratom sales.
Due to all these moves, people’s curiosity about kratom has risen significantly, and many people wonder what all this fuss is all about. So, questions such as “what is kratom?” or “what is kratom used for?” are searched online every day. Moreover, kratom newbies wonder what the best way to take kratom is. In this article, we’ll focus on how to take kratom and compare two of the most popular methods: kratom tea vs. toss and wash.
Common Kratom Formats
In its areas of origin, people typically chew kratom leaves or prepare a decoction with them to enjoy its properties. But, finding fresh kratom leaves in the US market is not easy. Since kratom trees need the climate of the South East Asian rainforest to grow, you can’t find them in the Western countries. For this reason, kratom’s leaves are dried and grounded to a fine powder and then they’re packed and shipped to the US. Consequently, kratom powder is the most common format that you can find in the market. Nevertheless, some vendors also offer loose kratom leaves, but they are not as popular.
Besides kratom powder, there are other popular formats in the market, including capsules, resins, and tinctures. However, they are typically made from kratom powder. For this reason, kratom leaf powder is the most common format.
But what is the best way to take kratom leaf powder? There is no general answer to this question, as this will depend greatly on the user’s preference. However, it is safe to say that preparing tea or tossing and washing kratom are two of the most common ways of ingestion. So, let’s see below a comparison of the two methods: kratom tea vs. toss and wash.
How to Take Kratom Tea?
Using kratom powder to prepare an infusion or tea is one of the most common ways to ingest kratom. And the preparation method couldn’t be simpler.
In order to prepare kratom tea using powder, you simply need to put water in a pot and heat it until it boils gently. After that, reduce the heat and add your desired kratom powder dose to the pot. But be careful not to add it when the water is boiling. Instead, let it cool down a bit, add your powder dose and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes. Then, pour it into a cup through a strainer and drink it.
If you are a newbie, mind that kratom’s taste can be overwhelming to many individuals. Kratom’s flavor can be described as bitter and earthy, in fact, most people say that it tastes like mud. For this reason, you can use sweeteners to make your kratom taste better. You can use sugar or honey for this purpose.
How to Toss and Wash Kratom?
If you are looking for kratom information online or for kratom preparation methods, you’d probably come across the term “toss and wash”. But what does this exactly mean?
Basically, tossing and washing kratom consist of placing your kratom powder dose in your mouth (using a spoon or a similar tool) and washing it down with water or juice. If you haven’t attempted this method before, make sure to swish the water around your mouth before swallowing to avoid it from making clumps.
Additionally, remember to measure your dose before scooping it in your mouth to avoid taking too much. Also, if you think that your dose is too large to take in one go, you can divide it into smaller portions to make it easier to swallow.
Kratom Tea Vs. Toss and Wash: Which Method Is Better?
As we already said, there is no general answer to which the best method is to take kratom. However, after comparing kratom tea vs toss and wash both methods have their own advantages. Let’s see them below:
Kratom tea advantages:
- By using heat, you can get rid of possible contaminants that might be present in your kratom.
- The flavor is not as strong, and you can use sweeteners to mask it.
- Drinking kratom tea is easier than the toss and wash method, so it is recommended for newbies.
Toss and wash advantages:
- This method allows your system to better absorb the alkaloids.
- The effects typically kick in quicker.
In conclusion, consider that both methods are popular and effective ways to take kratom. But, if you are a newbie it is better to start with kratom tea, as the toss and wash method can be hard to perform in the beginning.
