Kratom for Tinnitus

In recent times, more and more people rely on herbal remedies, alternative therapies or a holistic way to approach their ailments. Herbs like kratom or holistic therapies such as naturopathy and acupuncture are gaining popularity every day. There are many conditions that can be alleviated using alternative therapies. However, consider that most times natural remedies won’t cure any condition, but they will help relieve some of its symptoms.

Kratom is an herb from South East Asia that is used to relieve various symptoms. It is especially known for its antianxiety and analgesic properties. In fact, those are the main reasons why people use kratom. Nevertheless, many individuals have found that other symptoms have been alleviated whilst using kratom. One of the conditions that some kratom users have explored is the use of kratom for tinnitus. But does kratom for tinnitus work? Is it effective? Is it a cause or a solution? We have explored this subject and below is what we’ve found.

What Is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is the perception of noise in the ear when no external sound is present. People who suffer from tinnitus, typically perceive humming, ringing, buzzing and other uncomfortable sensations. This condition can happen in one or both ears.

Tinnitus is a common problem that many people have experienced some time in their lives, and it’s transitory in most cases. However, an estimated 15% of the world population suffers from chronic and irreversible tinnitus.

This condition can develop at any age, but it is more common at an older age.

Causes and Consequences of Tinnitus

Tinnitus can be caused by many different causes, the most common include:

  • ear injuries
  • hearing-loss
  • loud noise exposure
  • head or neck injuries
  • earwax blockage
  • Meniere’s disease
  • stress
  • muscle injuries on the inner ear
  • blood vessel disorders
  • some medications

Although many times tinnitus is a transitory condition that improves after a few hours or days, there are occasions when it becomes chronic. Consequences of tinnitus include:

  • difficulty to concentrate
  • sleeping trouble
  • stress and anxiety
  • depression
  • hyper sensibility to external noise

How Does Kratom Work?

Kratom, or Mitragyna Speciosa, contains a great number of alkaloids that bind to the kappa and mu receptors of the brain. Although kratom is not an opioid, it has similar properties to opioids. As such, it can effectively relieve pain, anxiety and other symptoms of many conditions.

To e able to produce its effects, kratom should be orally ingested. This way, its alkaloids will be absorbed into your system through your digestive tract. Although you might have heard of other ways to take kratom, they are believed to be, not only ineffective but also potentially dangerous.

Kratom for Tinnitus. Cause or Solution?

As you know, kratom is a great herb that can help many individuals overcome unpleasant symptoms of many conditions. But, although it has many beneficial effects, kratom is not a miraculous plant.

Lately, some kratom users have reported different effects regarding kratom for tinnitus. But it is not clear yet if kratom can worsen the condition or if it can be a potential solution or, at least, a potential reliever.

Unfortunately, as usual, there’s no research on the use of kratom for tinnitus, so we must rely on anecdotal evidence. So, let’s see what people say:

kratom for tinnitus cause or solution?

People who say that kratom has helped them relieve symptoms of tinnitus report that kratom has helped them reduce their tinnitus symptoms by half. However, it is noticeable that most people who find relief after using kratom for tinnitus also suffer from anxiety. As you know, kratom has potent antianxiety effects. So, this makes us think that, by reducing anxiety, kratom may help reduce tinnitus associated with it.

On the other hand, there are also many individuals who report that kratom has worsened their tinnitus symptoms, especially when using strong stimulating strains or after using large doses. Some believe this might be caused by higher blood pressure when using kratom or by not keeping properly hydrated.

Finally, many tinnitus sufferers haven’t found any difference with kratom. So, there’s no way to know if kratom for tinnitus might be a cause or a solution.

Having said that, if you are planning to try kratom for tinnitus, we recommend avoiding stimulating strains and to start on low doses.

Most Popular Kratom Uses

Although kratom was mainly used in its areas of origin as an energizing herb to face long and exhausting working days under the sun, this is not the main reason why people use kratom in the US. Most kratom users in America, use the herb for one or more of the following reasons:

  • relieve pain (especially chronic pain)
  • ease anxiety and stress
  • combat insomnia
  • get off opioids and combat the symptoms of opiate withdrawal
  • improve focus and motivation
  • as a natural stimulator (the plant poses stimulating properties similar to coffee, and it is, in fact, from the same botanical family)

If you are planning to use kratom for tinnitus or for any of the above reasons, it is important to do some research first. There are many different kratom products in the market, and not all of them are suitable for every purpose.

Treatments for Tinnitus

Although kratom has been effective for many individuals who suffer from tinnitus, as we said, this is not always the case. So, what are the most common and effective ways to relieve tinnitus?

If tinnitus has been caused by exposure to loud noise or by a bad posture or small injury, it will probably go away after a few hours or days. If this doesn’t happen, the most common treatments are:

  • Prescription drugs, including vasodilators to help reduce the intensity. Additionally, other substances, such as melatonin can also improve the condition.
  • When the condition is caused by earwax blockage, a simple earwax removal will help you get rid of it.
  • If the cause is a blood vessel condition, it will be necessary to treat the cause first to improve tinnitus. This may include medication or surgery.
  • Changing your medication may help if tinnitus was caused by it.
  • Tinnitus retraining therapy can help you to habituate to the disorder. This may include wearable devices as well as counseling.
  • When the condition is caused by the bad posture you may need some form of rehabilitation.
  • Masking devices (similar to hearing aids) which produce low-level white noise to suppress tinnitus symptoms.

Finally, if you suffer from tinnitus, visit a doctor who will prescribe the best treatment for you.
