Kratom Properties

Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is a tree in the coffee family native to Southeast Asia. For centuries, the indigenous population of countries like Indonesia, Thailand or Malaysia has chewed the leaves of the kratom tree to alleviate pain, relax or even to fight opiate addiction. Nowadays, kratom has become very popular in the whole world and many people are using kratom as a natural remedy for:

  • Pain
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Fatigue or low energy
  • Focus improvement
  • Insomnia
  • Opiate withdrawal symptoms

Kratom also has antioxidant properties and can boost your immune system.

There are many ways of consuming kratom: you can brew it in a tea, make kratom capsules, or toss and wash it. But most users complain about kratom bitter taste. Yes, kratom does not taste nice. In fact, taking kratom tea can be a very unpleasant experience for many.

Adding kratom to yogurts, juices or applesauce is another way of taking kratom that covers its taste. Many users claim that kratom applesauce is one of the best ways of consuming kratom without “suffering” its taste.

How to Choose the Best Apple for Your Kratom Applesauce

If you want a sugar-free applesauce, Gala, Golden Delicious or Fuji are the most recommendable options. If you intend to add sugar or any other sweetener to your applesauce, McIntosh apples are a great choice. Other apple varieties you can use for your applesauce are Paula Red, Crispin, Gravenstein, Jonathan or Jonamac.

Honeycrisp apples, though sweet enough for applesauce, are too crispy (and they are not cheap either). Pink Lady and Granny apples are too firm for the recipe and they also have a slightly tart taste that is not the most appropriate for making applesauce. Red Delicious is not very tasty, so we don’t recommend it either.

Kratom and Applesauce: Ingredients

  • Your kratom dose
  • 2 apples (you can use different types)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)

We have not included an exact amount on kratom because it depends on many factors: Are you using extract or regular kratom? What effect do you want to achieve? Your kratom dosage may vary depending on these and other factors.

Sugar is optional in this recipe. Of course, if you add sugar, covering the taste of kratom will be easier. That said, if you do not like things too sweet, it is better to remove the sugar from the recipe and add more cinnamon or tastier apples that can make kratom taste better.

Kratom and Applesauce: Preparation

  • Peel, core and cut the apples into small pieces. If you don’t know how to core an apple, you can find some tips here.
  • Place the apples in a microwave-safe bowl. Sprinkle with cinnamon and with sugar (if you want to use it) and add the kratom and the tablespoons of water.
  • Cover the bowl with a microwave-safe plastic wrap. Leave a little side opened or make tiny holes in the plastic with a fork so the steam can escape.
  • Microwave on high for 3 – 5 minutes. The time will depend on the potency of your microwave, so you might need to adjust it.
  • Remove from the microwave and check if the apples are tender enough for your If they weren’t, you can microwave the apples (this time without the plastic wrap) until they get the consistency you desire.
  • Mash it with a fork until you get the texture you want.
